I recently visited Captain's Quarters in San Diego and was impressed by the intimate, nautical-themed atmosphere. Nestled near the water, it offers a cozy, yet refined, ambiance perfect for a relaxed evening. I started with their Old Fashioned, and it did not disappoint. The cocktail was expertly crafted, with a perfect balance of bourbon, bitters, and a hint of sweetness from the sugar cube. The large ice cube kept it chilled without diluting the flavors, while the orange peel garnish added a refreshing citrus aroma that enhanced each sip.

For the appetizer, I tried the potato dish, which turned out to be a wonderful surprise. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, seasoned to perfection with a blend of herbs and spices. The accompanying dipping sauce was rich and tangy, complementing the dish beautifully. It was a satisfying starter and set the tone for the rest of the meal.

Overall, Captain's Quarters offers a great spot for classic cocktails and delicious bites, with a relaxed, welcoming vibe that’s ideal for both casual outings and special occasions. I’ll definitely be back!

What a fun speakeasy, especially during the fall with the Halloween decor! The highlights are definitely the ambiance and cocktails (gin forward). I agree with some others, it can get a little loud. However, we were there at opening and had most of the surrounding space to ourselves until around 6:00 PM. We took advantage of the happy hour (from 5:00-6:00, half off of cocktails). The cold brew martini and mai tai proved to be excellent choices. Believe it or not the complimentary popcorn was a nice, tasty surprise. I’m a little torn on how to rate the food. Table favorites included the prosciutto and manchego w/ berry jam grilled cheese and the papas bravas w/ garlic aioli. The Brussels sprouts and lamb shawarma were average. I found the portions to be extremely small considering the price, especially the short rib gordita crunch- 3 bite size pieces for $18. Yikes! And lastly, and much to my dismay because dessert is my favorite, the Fools Gold toffee cake dessert was a big disappointment. It was soooo dry and the yogurt did not seem to compliment the cake very well.

I would still return, as the service we received was great and you cannot beat the ambiance. Happy hour is the way to go and if you’re still hungry, you can mosey over to a nearby restaurant.

stopped by for a drink before heading over to grass skirt. We must have gotten lucky cause everything was awesome! The music level was good, could talk to my husband. but maybe cause it was still early in the night. Drink was delicious & loved the decor. Great date night!

What can I say about the Captain's Quarters; it's a unique bar experience that I was lucky enough to fall into. They did a great job with the decor in combination with great service. I love gin so it was a breath of fresh air to see so many delicious gin cocktails.

This place is a really cute spot next to the grass skirt and it’s cool how you can get into the speakeasy. I feel like the new standard is they fill cocktails full of ice and barely give you any drinks so that’s kind of the experience here, but the food was really good and the atmosphere was cool.

This place is great. Tiki Bar on one side, ship on the other. Food was surprising, drinks excellent, service crew cordial and kind. Decor and ambiance are top notch. It really transports you and sets an other-worldly mood, which is what one wants in a theme bar. Can’t wait to go back. ✌️

What a cool speakeasy in SD! Super cute Halloween themed drinks and such great service. Grass skirt next door was also fantastic. Would come back here for sure.

Loved this hidden gem in Pacific beach area. Plenty of parking and definitely hidden. Beautiful decor and delicious table side popcorn
