We fell into The Roost completely by accident when visiting Sacramento earlier this year. One of the best happy accidents because we have come to love this place and are now moving to Sac (not just for The Roost but maybe a little)!

The ambiance is wonderful here as is the service. It always feels special and intimate every time you’re there but also lacks the air of pretension that so often comes with fine dining. I’d come here just to hang out but fortunately the drinks are also excellent.

Everyone who has ever made us a cocktail here has been fabulous. (Notables Noah and Ben!) The drink menu is exactly what I hope for in a bar. Complex drinks, constantly rotating, crafted with care. I’m not sure you could ever get bored here. And if so, just ask for something off menu and I’m sure they’d oblige.

The food is also incentive and tasty. Menu is limited so be aware (but also Bawk is out front if you’re in need of a full meal). I will never be able to resist the Szechuan wings and I hope they stay on the menu forever. Something about the tingling spice makes the drinks taste even more fun (if altered somewhat).

In summary The Roost is one of my favorite bars in any city and I’d highly recommend it. Special shout out to Justin the manager! Thanks for all you do!

Close your eyes and imagine you are transported back in time to the 1920s, during the Prohibition era, where the very first speakeasy came into fruition, because the sale or transportation of alcohol was illegal in the US. So imagine the hidden speakeasies that you had to learn from by word of mouth and how the secrecy of such an establishment was forbidden, or face being arrested. It is a secret and I don’t want to spoil the surprise on how to get there, but I guarantee that you will love it just as much as I did. I’ve been to plenty of speakeasies and bars around the world and none and I mean non compares to this one and has everyone beat as far as alcoholic beverages. Mind blown!!! If you want to stick to the theme of the 1920s, there’s a drink for you. Or the bartender can create one that matches your palette. Their expertise and their extensive selection sealed the deal. Floor to ceiling alcohol display is impressive. I enjoy grazing on appetizers while sipping on those delicious drinks. Amazing customer service and relaxing vibe! Worth the price point. Treat yourself!

Six stars for the overall experience!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The real deal for speakeasy in Sac. They provide the whole experience, including a conspicuous spot, a really hidden entrance, and an amazing area nicely decorated. As for the entrance, go check out, finding how to get in as is part of the fun! The lighting and the decor create a great ambience where one feels is going back in time. The cocktails were delightful. Really well done. The menu has tons of options. I was impressed with the way they split the menu to highlight cocktails from different regions, time in history, and recommendations from the establishment. While they say they welcome walking, my recommendation is for people to make reservations in advance as I believe that will give the patron the opportunity to be there for at least 2 hours, which believe me, is not enough time. Overall, highly recommended. Will definitely be going back.

A wonderful cocktail experience! Excellent drink options from drinking around the world to different time periods in the America's. Our table chose to do a "dealer's choice" by selecting a favorite liquor base and flavor profiles. We all enjoyed our drinks. As someone who enjoys fine whiskeys, they have a great selection. I asked to get a pour neat and they brought over the bottle as well for looking over and pictures. Great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff; customer service is top notch. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Enjoy the journey and experience!

Super fun speakeasy bar tucked away in midtown. We went after brunch on a Sunday and had a blast. We did not have reservations- but I would highly recommend making them. All our drinks were amazing and really run to be a part of the creative process.

I have written and re written this review many times trying to find the right words. Everything about our visit was perfect. Adrian and John/Johnny were our bartenders. The atmosphere was amazing. Quiet, but with bursts of laughter and loud chatting. It definitely has a proper speakeasy feel, but talking/laughing is allowed and encouraged. I have been to many speakeasys in my life and we didn't even feel like we were in Sacramento. We felt as if we were transported to an exclusive speakeasy in another state/country. The Roost truly is the first proper speakeasy in Sacramento. Now the drinks. I honestly can't remember everything we had, but I will say that what we had tasted amazing. We drank french inspired cocktails and finished with an old fashion. Probably the best old fashion I've ever had in my life, as they do not use a traditional orange peel/essence and instead swap it out for a lemon peel. Game changer. They have an EXTENSIVE spirit assortment and offer something for everyone. They even have spirits from small batch, local distillers. I was shocked to see Emilia vodka by Nixtaco on the shelf. Which was amazing.
We had fun. We made friends. We WILL be back. Treat your bartenders well and they will return the sentiment. Thank you Roost ?

Atmosphere is great. Went with a group of friends. They did get some of our drinks wrong but it was an honest mistake 2 drinks had the same name partly. No one cleared our empty plates. Just left it all with us till we left after 2hrs.

We had a great experience from start to finish. We loved the “opening rum punch.” The menu was super cool, we ended up doing a “dealers choice” and having them create a drink based on some choices we made. Both our cocktails were delicious. We absolutely loved our server Ashley, too! We can’t wait to come back
